BBC Summer Social: What to expect

Well, what a weekend! The BBC Summer Social returned to Croxteth Country Park in Liverpool for 2019 offering an even bigger and better line-up than last year. So, to make sure you’re in the know for next year’s antics, we headed down over the weekend to see what all the fuss was about.

What to expect at the BBC Summer Social?

The BBC Summer Social captures the festival vibe that parents love and mixes it with the fairground fun that kids adore. With live acts that vary from CBeebies stars doing what they do best and keeping the kids happy, to iconic pop bands that will have parents singing along – you can’t go wrong with this family day out.

What’s the entertainment like?

The Saturday saw headliners Busted and Pixie Lott send the crowds into an excited frenzy, alongside other additions to the bill John Newman, Rak-Su, Nina Nesbitt and Freya Ridings.

The Sunday was aimed more towards a younger audience, seeing CBeebies Superstar Mr Tumble take to the stage for an unmissable performance. Other exciting CBeebies additions included Andy and the Odd Socks, Dr Ranj, mayhem creators Cook and Line from Swashbuckle and Hey Duggee.

But it wasn’t just the main stage at the BBC Summer Social that offered unmissable entertainment; all around Croxteth Country Park, visitors could discover immersive activity zones, theatre shows, interactive and inspiring workshops, a spectacular range of outdoor and indoor activities and live appearances from the most popular children’s authors.

Whatever their age, there was something to put a smile on a kid’s face!

What are the facilities like at the BBC Summer Social?

The idea of braving the portaloos is a huge concern for parents – especailly those with small children, but the facilities at the BBc Summer Social are great. There’s even a whole tent equipped with changing tables and comfy chairs for breast feeding mama’s, so there’s no worries with regards to taking a baby!

There were some complaints about parking, but as far as we saw there were plenty of spaces with enough room between them to load and unload the pram easily!

What food and drink can you get?

When it comes to festival food, the BBC Summer Social was second to none. With everything from your standard burger and chips, to wood fired pizzas. But, be aware that you’re going to be paying top dollar for them! If you’ve got a big family to feed, I’d recommend taking a picnic and saving those £££ for the fairground rides!
