Things to do in Munich

An eagerly awaited trip which I received as a Christmas present. Off to Munich I was going… hurrah!

It was late when we landed in Munich and arrived at our hotel. The Steigenberger hotel had only been open for two months and was just fabulous! It was so opulent, clean and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. I always eat way tooooo much so was impressed with the gym and couldn’t wait to use the Spa area. There were two huge saunas, steam room and these brilliant swing chairs!

Things to do in Munich: Day 1

Lots of touristy things, shopping and eating! H&M loved Munich as much as we did! The Viscardigasse was nice on the eye (which girl doesn’t like some glittering gold!) and with an important meaning from brave Germans who didn’t respect Hitler. I won’t bore you with my million photos of buildings – the University, statues etc. but I will say that they’re just stunning. Such a pretty and well-kept city. You just find yourself constantly looking around in admiration.

I was in my element at Viktualienmarkt with all the lovely food stalls and found the hidden chocolate shop/ café, Beluga which I was looking for. The chocolate tarte was amazing! A definite must see.

Then it was time to hit the place where everyone raved about – Hofbraeuhaus. I was expecting stag dos, drunk men and was surprised at how pretty it was inside. And how heavy steins were! The atmosphere was chilled and lively at the same time. I didn’t quite manage the whole two pints as was saving myself for cheeky vodkas later for the Stereophonics gig.

We watched the Stereophonics at Backstage. The venue smaller and more intimate than other gigs I’ve been to which made the gig even better. We were simply wowed for two hours and had a great time. The set list was fab and since then I haven’t stopped playing their songs… “Mr Writer, why don’t you tell it like it is?…!”

Things to do in Munich: Day 2

Luckily not too much of a tender head so a full day of exploring again. After a random breakfast (gummy bears with an American breakfast and I have no idea what the anaemic sausage was but that was gobbled up – not by me I must add!), we walked the 299 stairs up St. Peter’s parish church. It was such a nice building which allowed us to see stunning views of Munich. Inside the church was breath-taking too.

Lunch was the famous currywurst which I am not a massive fan of.. stop frowning! Still sampled a bit though naturally. 😉 Then more exploring and pretty little white flakes starting dropping from the sky. It was snowing! We made our way to Englischer Garten. It was just beautiful with the snow and we found a little Biergarten where there were standstill cable cars to sit in and it felt just like Christmas as I drank my mulled wine. Perfecto! A stroll round here was beautiful as we saw all the key points of interest – lots to see and would be totally different in Summer when there are surfers on the lake. Yet another reason to go back!

We were so tired when we finished exploring and cold so back to warm up in the spa then had dinner and wine in the hotel which was probably my favourite meal of the trip. Another reason why the hotel was so great!

Things to do in Munich: Day 3

So this was pronounced as ‘Man Day’ and off to the old Olympic Stadium and Bayern Munich Stadium we went! The Olympic Stadium was so pretty in the snow and so quiet! We had a wander round and read about some of the winning athletes. We even saw a huge table football, just needed many more people around to play.

Next we went to the Bayern Munich Stadium. We did the tour which could have been amazing but due to flight times, we had to listen to the German speaking tour so I didn’t understand everything. Shame! But it was still impressive and we had a good look round the museum. I was sad to read about the Munich Air Disaster from a memorial. We could have stayed in the museum for ages. We (well I did as I knew zilch!) learnt so much history, saw all the winning cups, trophies etc. and played some fun games.

Then it was time to get ourselves to the airport. I really didn’t want to go home! Munich was amazing, the culture, the architecture, the people, the food, the things to do, everything about it. I would massively recommend it and I hope you enjoyed reading about our little trip.
