5 face masks that actually work (and when to use them)

best face masks that work

As a beauty editor I am constantly trying new products and discovering what’s worth the pennies and what’s not. Face masks being one of those products. But which ones actually work and which ones should be left on the shelf?

Here are just a few of my tried and tested favourite face masks to leave your skin nourished, plumped up, hydrated and glowing.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Mask £9.99 – BEST FOR BREAKOUTS

If you are yet to try any of The Ordinary products this would be your perfect starting point.

Promising to draw out impurities and reduce the appearance of blemishes and unclog pores, salicylic acid exfoliates deep down into your pores, promoting a much smoother appearance.

This mask is perfect if you are prone to breakouts.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask £18 – BEST FOR BRIGHTENING THE SKIN

Looking to brighten dull skin?

This is the mask for you. It absorbs oil and fights against breakouts all whilst brightening and giving your skin the boost, it needs.

My skin always feels plumper and fresher after using this mask without drying out my skin.

StarSkin Bio Cellulose Sheet Mask £13 – BEST FOR HYDRATING A TIRED COMPLEXION

My absolute go to when I am having one of those weeks where I have been burning the candle at both ends and its showing in my skin.

I am obsessed with these sheet masks that are made from Bio-cellulose and covered in a rich serum which always leaves my face looking noticeably different.

Hydrated, plump and glowy.

The day after using these masks I always notice how much nicer my makeup applies.

Worth the money for a special monthly treat.

Garnier Moisture Bomb Face Masks £2.99 – WILL WORK ON A BUDGET

Available in several different varieties these masks are perfect for those who don’t want to spend a lot on their skincare but still want a product that works. Dermatologically tested they are easy to apply, great for hydration and suitable for sensitive skin.

I use one of these masks every Sunday night as part of my evening skincare regime.

Tip: Once you remove the mask, rub any remaining serum into your skin for an extra hydration boost.

Bio Miracle Star Dust with Glitter Brightening and Hydrating peel off face masks £2.99** – WORKS FOR GLOWY SKIN

I LOVE this mask. I didn’t know what to expect when I first received this mask as part of a PR package but now I am hooked.

I love how clean my pores feel after just one use. These masks help to stimulate the skin leaving you with a brighter, healthy looking glow.

When it comes to removing, make sure you peel off slowly rather than tugging or pulling at your skin. If you’re struggling to get any of the remaining residue off use a warm cloth in circular motions to remove.

Whichever face masks you decide to use, make sure you know exactly what you are looking for and do your research. If your skin is sensitive stay away from those with added fragrance, and if your skin is dry go for richer serum face masks that actually work to add hydration to your skin.

Let me know how you get on.

xx
