How to get a salon quality bouncy blow dry at home

Follow our step by step guide to getting a fresh from the salon quality bouncing blow dry at home…

Bouncy blow dry at home: The prep

The first thing you need is a decent shampoo to nourish your hair while you’re ragging it up into a scruffy bun every day. Just think; with all the money you’re saving on staying home, the least you can do is spend a few extra quid on keeping your hair in good nick.

If you want that voluminous bounce, you need to keep your hair thick and healthy. Go with a hair thickening treatment like Nanogen’s 7-in-1 Shampoo which uses ingredients based on skincare-inspired technology to support scalp health – because I don’t want to see any of you bitches emerging with dandruff after all this, ok?

Bouncy blow dry at home: The equipment

Now you could blow dry your hair at home the traditional way with 20 brushes, a hairdryer and severe arm cramps for up to 4 hours afterwards, or you could do yourself a favour and get yourself a handy little tool to do all the hard work for you.

Enter the InStyler Max Prime; a round brush and blow dryer in one, offering 2-way barrel rotation and 4 heat settings so you can create a bouncy blow without leaving quarantine with muscles to rival Chris Hemsworth’s.

I promise you, this is the ultimate hair tool if you want effortless glam – you’ll be hanging up your straighteners in favour of a bouncier and healthier looking blow dry that will actually keep your hair feeling fresh for up to three days.

The method

After you’ve washed and blast-dried your hair, you’re ready to start. Now, the first thing I should mention about the InStyler Max Prime is that you can change the direction in which the barrel rotates by simply clicking the brush and the barrel together. So, before you even THINK about starting, make sure the barrel is rotating away from your face, and you remember to click when you change sides.

  • Firstly, de-tangle, section, and smooth hair before styling.
  • Hold the InStyler Max Prime vertically.
  • Take a 1-2″ section of hair and wrap it around the barrel. Make sure there are no loose strands hanging off the section and that all parts of the hair are on the barrel (and not the tool).
  • Close the InStyler Max Prime for five seconds, longer if you’re after a more defined curl.
  • Continue to do this through each section of hair, wrapping the hair more loosely as you get to the front for a more muted look.

Keeping it fresh

Finally, to keep your DIY bouncy blow dry looking fab for longer, spritz with another thickening product. Again, Nanogen is good this and their hair fibre locking spray, (which is unisex btw, if your fella is looking a little thin on top!) uses 100% natural Keratin hair fibres that create instant volume by electrostatically attaching themselves to the existing hair shaft to create DRAMATIC volume.

And that’s it – a super-simple DIY bouncy blow that MIGHT save you a bit of money once all of this is over!
