What is brow lamination: the latest craze sweeping the beauty industry

What is brow lamination

I think we all know how obsessed I am with all thing’s beauty so any latest trend that I see I want to try it straight away, and to be fair there isn’t much I haven’t heard of or tried. So, let’s talk Brow Lamination.

Like me you’re probably thinking brow what now?

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination also referred to as brow sculpt or brow lift is basically a perm for your eyebrows.

Designed to give the illusion of fuller, thicker, more defined brows – think soap brows but better I jumped at the chance to try this new treatment.

And let me tell you I am now OBSESSED.

Having had my eyebrows microbladed a couple of years ago my brows have been quite structured which I like but I do miss the illusion of the fluffy natural brow so I was keen to see whether this would work for me.

I was lucky enough to try this treatment out over in West Kirby with Brow Queen Sophie Makin who is based at the beautiful salon Majestic Hair.

So how does it work?

As I said above it is essentially perming your brow hairs.

Firstly, a straightening solution is added to the brows which allows the hairs to lie flat making it easier to brush them up into place.

After covering my brows in plastic for a couple of minutes the process is then repeated with a setting solution and brushed up into a fluffy shape.

Sophie then applied a tint to my brows, which allow I do have colour to my brows I do normally add brow pomade (this is no longer needed – hurray!)

The process itself is super easy and took around 45 minutes.

Who is it best for?

Anyone who wants to improve their natural brows. Perfect for adding volume and giving the fluffy brows we all dream of. I would say people who have a thinner brow will see more of a result as it really does double the brow, which may feel overwhelming at first but trust me you will grow to love this instant eyelift.

I was lucky enough to speak with Sophie after about her business, brows and much more.

Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you end up doing beauty?

I have been working in the beauty industry for around 10 years now. I have always loved skincare, makeup and the science behind it all.

I have worked in spas, on skincare and make-up counters, done bridal make-up and have spent the last 4 years specialising solely in brows and semi-permanent make up. I was living in Sydney up until last December where I was lucky enough to of worked in one of the most prestigious salons and was trained by some of the best artists in the industry.

What do you offer?

Signature Brow Sculpt. In this treatment I will tailor your brows to the desired shape for your bone structure. I start by brow mapping, taking into account each of your key features eye by eye. I then use a wax and tweeze method to create your bespoke shape. I then follow with a tint or lighten of the brow hairs and finish with a soothing cream and a light make-up finish to complete the look.

Brow Lamination, this is a process that reconstructs the brow hairs and sets them in to the desired shape. The trend at the moment is to have that brushed up brow we are seeing everwhere, lamination achieves this look lasting around 8-10 weeks. A tint and wax/tweeze is also included to define and sculpt the brow.

Powder Brows. This technique is created using a machine, that finely implants the pigment into the skin, creating a soft, powdery, ombre effect throughout the brow. It is semi-permanent lasting 3/4 years. This is great for anyone with sparse brows, barely there brows or anyone just wanting to add a little more colour and definition.  You literally wake up with makeup every morning its fab.

Lash Lift, this treatment lifts your natural lashes up from the root resulting in longer, fuller lashes. It really opens up the eye area and lasts 6-8 weeks. A tint is also included in this.

Who inspires you?

There are so many people that inspire me its hard to choose one person. I feel inspired daily by articles that I read, accounts I follow, stories I hear. My friends who juggle work life and being the most amazing mums. My girl gang inspire me, the way we are so supportive of each other, I don’t know where i’d be without them. My family inspires me, especially my mum who is the strongest lady I know.

What is your greatest achievement?

My biggest achievement would be finding my path in Sydney. I went into a job just under 5 years ago, never imagining i’d find my passion. I have completed training with some of the leading artists in the industry. I love meeting new/existing clients and seeing the smile on their faces after I have transformed their brows. Having the right brow shape to suit your face and bone structure is so important, brows frame the eyes, shape the face and play a powerful role in communication.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to open their own business?

The advice I would give to someone wanting to open their own business is to do your research. Talk and listen to your friends, family and anyone you know with their own business. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Be patient!!!! It won’t happen overnight! Always be open minded, keep learning and wanting to improve all the time.

What advice would you give to yourself 5 years ago?

Be positive, stay hopeful, switch to coconut milk and go to yoga.

What is your top tip for the best-looking brows?

STAY AWAY FROM THE TWEEZERS!!! Leave it to the expert! I also recommend massaging a small amount of castor oil nightly to keep them hydrated and nourished.

What are your ‘daily struggles’ and how do you overcome them?

Daily struggles I’d say, finding motivation to be active, whether it’s a gym session or getting my steps in. I was recently bought a fitbit watch for my birthday and I love it, its definitely made me more mindful and kept me on track. I have also been trying to work on my organisation skills, I can be very last minute with things as my mum always likes to remind me, haha.

What’s next for you?

I am really working towards doing pop ups, around the UK at some point. As well as continuing on training in other cosmetic tattooing procedures. I’d love to eventually go in to medical tattooing so I can help people with scar camouflage and areola reconstruction after surgery.
