Spain; whether it’s a city break or a two-week stint on the beach, our South-East neighbour will always be one of our favourite destinations. From crazy Spanish festivals, to beautiful cities like Seville, Spain has so much to do and see – it’s almost impossible to choose where to visit. So, to help you to decide, we thought we’d take a look at the most famous Spanish islands and ask; which is better: Canary Islands or Balearic?

The Balearics

The Mediterranean islands of Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera each have their own distinctive character and are famous for their nightlife. From Palma’s refined dining and sophistication, to Magaluf’s 18-30 madness, there’s something for everyone. But, when most people think about the Balearics there’s only one island that sticks out in their mind; Ibiza.

Ibiza is home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the ancient remains of a Phoenician settlement dating back to 650BC – which, don’t get us wrong, is fabulous. But guess what else is fabulous? Cocktails. Beach Parties. World class DJ’s. Yes, Ibiza really does have it all.

The Canaries

With that said, there’s nothing like a week of doing nothing but relaxing on a beautiful beach with a cocktail in hand – and with its great weather all year round The Canary islands are beckoning for us to jet off from England’s rainy weather for some Winter sun.

The volcanic pre-history of the islands give them an altogether different feel from the Balearics, and they’re the perfect place to go if you’re looking to unwind.

Whilst the Balearics are all about the nightlife, the Canaries have a whole range of things to do in the day. Visitors to Tenerife can climb a volcano, Mount Teide, or cool down and relax in Siam Park – one of the world’s best water parks. The Roque Nublo in Gran Canaria is great for hiking. Fuerteventura’s epic sand dunes are a spectacle worthy of any national park in the world.
