UK Sporting challenges to step up your fitness game in 2020

Make 2020 an adventure, push yourself and test your abilities with some of the best fitness challenges UK has to offer, obstacle courses, races and fun outdoor activities.

We’ve put together a mix of some of the ‘toughest’ but ‘funnest’ challenges from throughout the county, to help you smash new goals, get motivated and step up your fitness game this year!

Rough Runner:

Rough Runner is a gameshow-inspired obstacle course event which is available for people of all ages and levels, one of the best fitness challenges in the UK for 2020. If you want to imagine what it’s like, think Total Wipeout, Gladiators and Takeshi’s Castle combined.

Rough Runner will have seven events taking place across the country in 2020.

Red Bull Quicksand

Runners and fitness enthusiasts will be able to test their mettle against 750 other competitors in this gruelling seaside race. Its one mile on sand, over a few sandy obstacles.

Red Bull Quicksand will return to Margate, Kent on Saturday, May 30th. Watch the promo video here.

Tough Mudder UK

Each Tough Mudder course is 10-12 miles long and contains 20-25 obstacles. From the ice-filled pools to the underwater Cage Crawl, it’s one of the toughest events on the Planet!

An obstacle course challenge that tests your strength, grit, stamina and teamwork. Some obstacles are easy to master, while others will push you to your limit and although you aren’t required to complete every obstacle, it’s a great way to test your boundaries and conquer fears!

This year Tough Mudder will host more than 50 events in countries worldwide, check our the events near you on their website.

Quest Adventure Series

Run, Cycle … Kayak? Adventure racing is the 2020 fitness challenge you need. Quest Wales combines three disciplines to create a fun and accessible challenge for people of all fitness levels.

Take on this multi-disciplined adventure race as you run, cycle and kayak across the stunning Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

Red Bull Timelaps

A 25-hour cycling race around Great Windsor Park – which takes advantage of the clocks going back!  24-25 October. 

Competing in teams of 4, cyclists battle it out over 25 hours to see who can rack up the most laps, with a power hour when the clocks change with laps counting as double. Watch the promo video here.

Leeds Castle in Kent’s Triathlon

Leeds Castle Triathlon takes place on the 27th June‬ this year. Perfect for challenging yourself and encouraging a healthy lifestyle in 2020, the triathlon involves swimming through the majestic Castle moat, and cycling and running through the Castle estate.

Chris Evans launches RunFestRun

Radio DJ Chris Evans, together with Virgin Radio, launched the 3 day camping, running and music festival called RunFestRun last year, returning again this year on 22nd May. Billed as ‘Britain’s biggest running party’, the family-friendly festival will take place in the beautiful grounds of Bowood House and Gardens.

With a line-up of well-known bands and DJs (tbc), running routes ranging from an immersive 2.5K fun run through to a timed half marathon and fun for the whole family!

The Climbing Hangar

The popularity of bouldering is continuing to soar and with the sport set to make its debut at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in 2020 the sports popularity is unlikely to decline.

The benefits of bouldering are huge with the sport renowned for its full body work out, however, it is the mental and social benefits that are encouraging greater numbers of people to try their hand at bouldering.

The Climbing Hangar is a great place for families to enjoy the sport together with families encouraged to climb together and challenge each other to scale increasingly challenging routes up the walls.

Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival

Each year the festival takes place in the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural beauty (AONB) and this year it will be back for its 16th year, offering 16 days of great walking across the East Midlands’ Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

From relaxing strolls to challenging hikes, the festival is suitable for young people, families and those who prefer challenging inclines. 2020 dates still to be confirmed.
