Meet One Half of Oh Darlin Liverpool Training Centre & Salon

In this latest edition of blogposts on local women I admire, this month I was lucky enough to catch up with one half of ‘Oh Darlin Liverpool and a businesswoman in her own right, Cheryl Taylor.

With over 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry, Cheryl opened her own training academy to help develop others and keep the industry standards high.

In 2018 along alongside well-known makeup artist Kate Hayes, Oh Darlin’ was born.

Combining a salon and a training academy they have amassed over 40k followers in 1 year and continue to train hundreds of young students on a weekly basis. In an industry that can at times seem cutthroat, what I like about both Cheryl and Kate, they continue to promote other peoples success along with their own, and offer courses to young people in Liverpool who may not have had opportunities and give them the chance to be successful.

So, what is the secret to Cheryl’s success and what’s next for Oh Darlin Liverpool Salon?

  • Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you end up with the concept behind your brand?

I’ve been in the beauty industry 20 years and wanted more than just a salon or training venue. My business partner is young fresh and glamorous, and we wanted to create a brand that not only screamed on trend, fashion led and “Instagramable” but also oozed experience and professionalism with outstanding standards.

  • What do you offer?

We have so much talent under one roof. Kate and I both offer private and government funded training courses in makeup and beauty. We also have independent businesses who offer services in hair, makeup, Laser treatment, brows, aesthetics, Brazilian Booty lifts, skincare just to mention a few!

  • Do you believe women are becoming as successful in their field just as much as men?

Talking about my own self-belief I’m very independent and have always relied on just myself which has given me strength to succeed & chase dreams. Woman are most definitely proving just how much we are all equal and with the support of other liked minded women business are going from strength to strength!

  • Who inspires you?

I always find this a hard on to answer as so many people inspire me. My family inspire me to work hard and be the best version of myself. My business partner Kate inspires me with her ambition, fun loving character and commitment to reach her dreams. There are many other businessmen and women I follow and network with that inspire me that I couldn’t just name one particular person!

  • What is your greatest achievement?

I’ve had many fantastic things that I’ve worked hard to achieve throughout my life but opening Oh Darlin Liverpool’ salon has truly been a dream come true. Every day I’m humbled to see what our students gain from our courses and watching them thrive with new careers.

  • What advice would you give to young girls wanting to open their own business?

Go for it! I’ve found being in joint partnerships has worked! I’ve made a great partner & what feels like a new family member ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’  & our worries or stresses are solved between us both

  • What are your ‘daily struggles’ and how do you overcome them?

Mine are being a busy mum of 3, I just have to plan, prepare & not waste a minute. I have moulded the best team of staff who are so passionate towards the business that their help supports me at times of need.

  • What’s next for you?

Wow, there’s do much on my list of goals, but I am hoping to develop our own products and am working towards taking our education nationwide.
