What Are Your Options After School?

what to do when you leave school

It’s not easy working out what to do with your life when you’re young. People expect you to have your future mapped out before you’ve even left school. However, with so many potential paths to go down, how are you supposed to decide which one to take?

We know it’s stressful, which is why we’ve put together a list of suggestions that may make things easier for you to figure out what to do when you leave school.

Go To University

For most students, going to university seems to be the logical next step after high school. Over half of young people attend university, with many of them motivated by the potential job prospects that come from having a degree. That, combined with the vibrant social life of being a student, certainly makes a compelling argument for higher education. Of course, not everyone is interested in prolonging their student years.

Find Work Experience

If you’re not interested in higher education, then you’re probably looking to get a job after high school instead. It’s a smart move because it means you can get several years ahead of your peers in regards to experience and income. However, finding a full-time job straight after high school can be a challenge. You may want to look for internships or apprenticeships which, although they don’t usually have brilliant pay, are excellent training for your future career.

Do A Degree Apprenticeship

This next option is basically a combination of the previous two, and it’s something you might not have heard of before. Essentially, it’s an apprenticeship that involves getting a degree, and it’s for those who know exactly what career path they want to follow. It’s a relatively new concept, but luckily, Developing a Student has all the information and resources you need to learn about degree apprenticeships. If you want to get a job and receive funding for a degree at the same time, this path is the one to take.

Start A Business

There probably won’t be many people for who this option will work. After all, setting up a business requires a unique idea and enough funds to get things started. Plus, you need to be a pretty business savvy person if you ever want to make any headway with your venture. However, there are some people who meet all these criteria, and for them, there’s probably no better path to take. If you have the means to get a business off the ground, you may as well take advantage of them.

Go Travelling

If you’re old enough to go out and explore the world on your own, why not? As long as you can afford to travel somewhere, and you’re willing to work there to continue funding your expedition, then go for it. The skills and experiences that you can pick up from doing this are like nothing you’ll ever encounter as an employee or student. It may have its challenges but travelling will change your life for the better.

The world really is your oyster once you finish school. Whether you want to stay in education, get a job, or see more of the world, there are plenty of options at your disposal. All that matters is that you do whatever it is you’re most passionate about.
