How to make your money go further this month

how to make your money go further

Do you ever get to the middle of the month and wonder where all your money has gone? You’re not alone! It’s easy to feel like you’ve got a good grip on your finances those two golden weeks after payday, but then feel like you need to live on beans on toast from the middle of the month onwards. Megan Fife from ashleighmoneysaver.co.uk, the UK’s leading shopping influencer made up of a group of hard working Mum’s, shares her top tips for on how to make your wages go further – say goodbye to that ‘end of the month and I’m skint’ feeling!

Plan Your Work Lunches

Hands up, who falls victim to buying a £3 meal deal every lunchtime during the week? When you add that up, that comes to £60 per month! Think about what else you could do with that money – it could even pay for a weekly grocery shop. Instead of buying supermarket meal deals, spend a Sunday afternoon batch cooking for the week ahead. This way, you can watch your savings start rolling in and eat healthier home cooked meals, rather than processed pre-packed sandwiches!

Set A Social Life Budget

We know, this sounds boring – but it can really help your wages stretch that extra mile. If you love going out for food with your friends, partner, or family – why not cook a meal at home! This way, you still get to socialise, but avoid the inflated restaurant costs. Or, if you frequent the cinema, have an at-home movie night in front of the telly instead! A Netflix subscription costs less per month than going to the cinema each week.

You needn’t quit the social activities that you love when you’re trying to make your wages go further – just compromise! Instead of going to a restaurant or the cinema weekly, go twice a month or once a month.

Manage Your Subscriptions

There’s certainly a chance that you’re paying for a sneaky subscription that you don’t even know about. Do you subscribe to Spotify, Netflix, Apple Music, Now TV, your gym, or anything else? They may not seem expensive at first, but those £7.99 bank withdrawals soon add up. Take a look through your monthly outgoings, and see if you can spot a subscription you don’t make the most of – then cancel it. This way, you’re making your wages go further without much effort at all!

So, are you feeling ready to save money yet? By adapting these handy hints and tips to your everyday life, you really can make your wages go further.
