Looking after your skin during lockdown

looking after your skin

Anyone else noticing their skin has changed during lockdown? I for sure have been feeling this way and speaking to my friends I realized I was not alone in this.

So, what’s caused this? One word. Lockdown. And are we at all surprised? Of course not, our daily routines have completely changed so of course our skin is going to change too. So in this blog post I wanted to run through some key steps to take to get back to looking after your skin.

Looking after your skin by reducing stress in your life

Anxiety, stress or just every day worries can really take a toll on our skin. When we are stressed, we produce the hormone cortisol which causes redness, inflammation and excess oil (yuk) which can in turn lead to break outs.

And I don’t know about you but as soon as I am stressed, I touch my face more. So, what have I done to change this? A few things, I’ve switched off the news – I found dealing with the every day worries of the world were weighing heavy on me.

I’ve upped my daily skincare routine, making sure that even though I’m not wearing much make up I am still religiously cleansing, toning and moisturizing. As soon as I got myself back into my usual skincare routine, with lots of added extras such as an eye mask, face mask and exfoliating once a week my skin has started to clear and is looking so much brighter and fresher.

I’ve also cut out any cold drinks such as fizzy drinks or juices and upped my daily intake to at least 2 litres per day.

Lack of a daily routine

Whether you’re working from home, not working at all or one of our many amazing key workers, everyone’s daily routine has changed.

At first, I found it hard to keep my day structured but I found straight away this was not only affecting me during the day but also my sleep pattern and my skin started to suffer.

So now, I make sure my day is as structured as it would be if I were in the office.

I start my day with a coffee, reading my emails and plan how I want my day to go along with some scheduled breaks and time outside.

And I try to stick to this as much as possible.

Outside time

Incorporating a daily walk has made all the difference to my wellbeing and its been nice to enjoy some good weather.

I hope if you’re doing this as well (which you should be) you’re remembering your SPF.

We may not have the hotter weather that other countries see but wearing SPF is always important even on those cloudy days.

Getting outside into the sunshine is good for you. It helps with cell development and reducing inflammation and above all it makes your skin glow.

Here are just a few key products I have added to my every day.

Vitamin C effervercent tablets into a glass of water first thing.

Self tanning drops added to my moisturizer to give me that healthy glow without makeup.

Coconut and Collagen Capsules, two a day with my morning coffee.

Leave in Conditioner, once a week because really what else will you be doing?
