What’s the deal with facial oils?

best facial oils

The skincare industry seems awash with facial oils, but do you have one? And more importantly do you need one?

I think the word oil scares people off before they have even tried it, but whether you’re after brighter, firmer or younger looking skin (who doesn’t) then you should be using a facial oil as part of your evening skincare regime.

So what do you need to know?

Contrary to popular belief oils are not there for hydration, they do not moisturize as such as they do not sink into the skin. They sit on the skins surface and act as a protective layer.

When should you apply?

They should be your last step in your regime, after any eye creams, serums and moisturisers. For me personally I love using an oil after my hyaluronic acid as it truly locks in the product to work hard on my skin as I sleep.

Should every skin type use an oil?

As expected a dry skin will benefit the most from a face oil, so if you suffer with dry patches or your skin feels tight, an oil would be a perfect addition to your skincare routine.

Having said that, all skin types can benefit from an oil and if you suffer from breakouts choose an oil with added tea tree this will help with your breakouts without clogging the pores.

If your skin is sensitive try an oil infused with lavender, this will help to soothe the skin without irritation.

Tried and tested

Skin Elixir Balance Nourish Facial Oil – Jane Scrivner*

One of my absolute favourite luxury facial oils. Press lightly into the skin at the end of your evening routine and your skin will feel super soft and smooth by morning. A great oil for fine lines and wrinkles and works well on sun damaged or dry skin. Rich in vitamins A, C and E and 100% Organic my skin always feels much more nourished after use.

The Power of Ten Face Oil – Kyushi*

Perfect for all skin types this oil is even safe to use around the eye area. It’s ideal to reduce inflammation, maintain elasticity, and strengthen the skin. If you’re a lover of essential oils this would be an ideal facial oil for you. Containing hemp seed oil and argan oil as well as many others I love to use this oil at the end of a stressful day.

Revitalizing Face Oil – Nakin

One that I go back to time and time again, I love this facial oil, not only is it all natural but it helps fight signs of ageing and doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. Whenever I use this oil my face always feels super glowy and hydrated. And although as I said whilst an oil should not replace a moisturizer this one in particular always helps keep my face feeling nourished and soft.
