So you’re planning a trip somewhere fun; good for you! Whether you’re looking at a local destination or somewhere further afield, planning a holiday is like being a kid before Christmas. Letting your imagination run wild about all the Pinterest-perfect places you’ll get to visit, the outfits you’re going to pack, the cuisine you’ll get to sample, the nights you’ll spend dancing and the memories you’re going to make with friends and family is all part of the fun, but what about getting down to the real planning? It can get a little overwhelming and sometimes lead you to giving up in frustration, and simply hoping that the holiday will unfold like a Hallmark movie. Don’t fall into this trap!

Since planning your holiday is what makes it a worthwhile one, step into the planning process with a mind to make it a fun experience rather than a trying one. Remind yourself that working now to make your trip a fun one later is the best way to maximise all the time you have available. Our planning tips will help you nail down the details and have the trip of a lifetime.
Planning Your Trip
1. Plan Smart
Get out your Pinterest boards and Google Docs, because it’s time to plan the ultimate, maximised trip. Look everywhere you can for inspiration and figure out what it is that you want from your holiday: is it pace and quiet, a place to party or a romantic retreat to get a little closer to the love of your life? Figuring this out early (no rule says you can’t have a little of a lot of things!) will help you choose the right accommodation and activities down the line.
Beginning to plan earlier than you think you need to is a wise move. It gives you time to do things slowly and carefully, never selecting the wrong date or mistakenly selecting a food option containing meat when you’re vegan, if you give yourself more time than you think you’ll need.
Another benefit of beginning the planning process early is that you’re more likely to find available and comfortable accommodations in popular areas and will be able to secure tickets to any events you prefer. You’ll also have a good grip on your budget if you move slowly through the planning and know where your money has gone—always a good thing!

2. Choose Your Destinations
Now that you know what you want out of your trip, you can choose where to go. There are numerous destinations worldwide that offer adventure, romance, modern luxury, and more, all in one place, or at least within one region. Tokyo, Dubai and Paris are some of the most popular destinations of this year, but you should also consider some destinations that might not always make the first slide of all the travel guides. Consider unique destinations like Romania, Sweden, or perhaps Croatia if you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path. Remember that just because a destination isn’t a “big name” in international travel doesn’t mean it doesn’t have plenty to offer discerning travellers who are selective about where they go and the activities they choose to try.
3. Book Your Flights
Consider the amount of time you’re going to spend in the air when you’re ready to book your flights. Consider how much rest you could get in or how much pre-holiday work you could get done if you had all that flight time to yourself rather than sharing it with strangers who overstep their bounds when it comes to how much of the armrest belongs to them.
If you’re heading to more than one destination, consider how much time you’ll waste waiting for connecting flights and how long it could take to retrieve lost baggage that was left in your last city. With all of that in mind, take our advice: book a private jet charter flight. The level of comfort you’ll find waiting for you, the time and frustration you’ll save, and the fact that you’ll arrive at your destination and back at home cool, calm and ready for what comes next are all invaluable things.

4. Find Your Dream Accommodation
You considered all the things you’d want from your holiday earlier in the process; now is where that becomes important again. Most kinds of holidays fall broadly into one of two categories: trips for excitement and gatherings, or trips for self-reflection, relaxation, and restoration. Adventure trips and romantic holidays can have as many of these aspects as you prefer. Book your accommodation according to your preferences.
- Party central: If you want to get a lot of delicious cocktails and dance till dawn on this holiday, you should choose a resort hotel with a selection of nightlife experiences. Failing that, the next best choice would be a hotel in a large city, wherever you’re going, somewhere close to excellent nightlife and dining, so that your outings will be safe and straightforward.
- Cool and calm: If you’re looking for a little less hustle and bustle and a little more peace and quiet, your destination will already reflect that. Even so, consider opting for cottage or villa accommodation instead of a traditional hotel stay. If you’re travelling somewhere in the countryside, you may even wish to try glamping or stargazing pods.
5. Open Your Arms to New Experiences
Wherever you go and whatever you do, remember to leave a little space and time in your schedule for trying things you’ve never tried before. Let yourself broaden your horizons!
