Review of The Quay Hotel and Spa, Conwy

Tucked along the banks of the Conwy Estuary, is one of North Wales’ most relaxing coastal escapes – Quay Hotel & Spa. It has one of the best panoramic views I’ve ever seen with rolling hills, the sparkling marina and the historic Conwy Castle in the near distance, and is just minutes from the the walled town of Conwy and the seaside resort of Llandudno. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure in a truly stunning setting that has to be seen to be believed!

The Quay Hotel and Spa Conwy Review

Spa Facilities and Treatment

The Quay Hotel has so many facilities that you could easily wile away a day and night just pottering from one to the other. The main one for us was the recently refurbished spa which features an indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, infrared room and Himalayan salt wellness area, with a menu of luxury treatments to choose from using products from luxurious British skincare brand, Oskia.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and given gorgeous sage green robes and grey flip flops to wear around the spa. We had our spa lunch in a little restaurant next to the spa reception which felt nice and hidden away. We both went for chicken ciabatta sandwiches with salad and coleslaw which was absolutely delicious and refreshingly substantial for a spa lunch, followed by a warm scone and jam and an orange cake.

After lunch we visited the relaxation room which was a stylish mix of low lighting, coastal decor, lillies, candles and twinkling lights, before it was time to head to the treatment room.

I chose the ‘Face and Body Fusion’; an 80 minute treatment described as ‘A sensational experience, the Luxury Face & Body Treatment combines our most luxurious radiance-boosting and anti-ageing facial techniques with the very best deep pressure massage to entirely renew your complexion and your sense of well-being and ensure you leave radiating with good health.’

I can’t even describe the level of relaxation I had from this treatment. I think I drifted off a few times which never happens when I have a massage as my mind is usually too busy, but the combination of the heated bed and deep pressure were enough to still my thoughts and let me float away. The facial felt super luxurious, particularly the Renaissance Mask – a buttery balm made of papaya enzymes and natural fruit acids such as lemon, grape, pineapple and passion fruit. It smelt incredible and made my skin feel so refreshed! Eighty minutes was the perfect length of time to allow myself to fully sink into the experience, my face was dewy and glowing all day afterwards, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

After the treatment we headed to the pool area which looked out at a view of sunny rolling hills. We used the sauna, steam, infrared and Himalayan salt rooms, and there was also an area where you could fill your own foot spa with hot bubbly water which was a lovely addition. The pool was fairly long with plenty of space for people to get their lengths in, a hot tub with jets of water to soothe aching muscles, and several sunbeds round the outside, perfectly positioned to look out at the sunshine. Overall, the space felt clean and modern and there were lots of little extra’s that set this spa apart – I loved having a mango sorbet after my treatment as a little refresher!

Room and View

After the spa we headed to reception to get our room keys. We were given a room on the ground floor but I really had no expectations for what kind of room we would get or if there would even be a view. As soon as we opened the door though, we were absolutely bowled over! As well as a big double bed, dressing table, two armchairs and coffee table, there were floor to ceiling french doors opening out onto a grass veranda with the most stunning view of the marina beyond, sparkling in the sunshine.

We ordered room service and took our drinks out onto the little patio to enjoy the amazing weather. It was so nice being able to potter around on the grass, wear our comfy robes and watch the boats go past our room and the train snaking through the town to our right. I actually preferred having the grassy space to move around and catch the sun, rather than having a little balcony like the rooms above us but I imagine the view from up there was even better as you would be able to see the whole marina.

At night it was incredibly peaceful and we couldn’t hear any noise from the town or the people in the rest of the hotel. My only points on the bedroom were that it was very hot as the mattress toppers are quite thick (thankfully there was a big fan in the room as it was such a warm weekend) and the tv’s don’t face the bed as they’re not on brackets so we were unable to watch anything in bed later on. Something to keep in mind if you struggle to sleep in hot weather or you were planning on watching MAFS in bed like us! But we loved that the view from the french doors was the main focal point and it was amazing being able to open the curtains in the morning and watch the sun rise from the comfort of our bed. Bonus points also for having a dressing table with a table, plug sockets and a mirror all in one place, and for having a plug socket either side of the bed!

Food and Beverages

In the evening we walked down to the Ebb and Flow restaurant which was just off from reception. The view of the marina from the restaurant as the sun went down was just stunning! If you just wanted to go for lunch on a sunny day, it would be the perfect place to while away a few hours as you get a full view of the water from end to end.

The decor inside I would describe as ‘beachy luxe’ with both the Cove Bar and Ebb and Flow Restaurant decked out with fishermans ropes, dangling fern plants and low hanging light bulbs for a luxury Pirates of the Carribean feel! There was also a little patio where you could grab a blanket and take your drinks outside to watch the sun setting.

We had a lovely waiter, Marc, who was so friendly, chatty and welcoming. To start we went for duck pate with bread and chutney which was absolutely delicious, and an amazing chunky terrine followed by steak with chunky chips and veg with a peppercorn sauce. We were completely stuffed by the end with no room for pudding but the brownie was very tempting to finish the night with!

In the morning, we came down for breakfast and were welcomed in by a super friendly lady called Joyce. We both went for the Quay cooked breakfast which included grilled back bacon, Angelsey sausage, button mushrooms, black pudding, grilled tomato, baked beans and a fried hen’s egg. I also tried the continental and had the pancakes, yogurt and berries to round the morning off before rolling over to reception to check out.

Overall Thoughts

The Quay Hotel and Spa is a beautiful hotel in an exquisite location. Everyone we met was so friendly, helpful and personable and this made for a really relaxed atmosphere, from the spa to the bar and everywhere in between. The treatment in the spa was so enjoyable and relaxing and I loved taking my time trying out all the different spa facilities and reading my book in the relaxation area with my sorbet. Nothing felt rushed and I loved that the spa staff remembered our names – such a nice touch! The view from our room was probably the jewel in the crown for me on this stay and I think we got very lucky with the weather so were actually able to enjoy having the french doors open and chilling out with a drink on the grass before dinner. All the food we had in the spa, the restaurant and at breakfast exceeded our expectations and we left every sitting absolutely stuffed!

Overall, we had such a relaxing stay and I would 100% recommend a night at The Quay Hotel if you’re planning on exploring the area or just need to get away to relax and recharge. I will absolutely be popping back in for lunch on the patio this summer!
