Postpartum hair loss is one of those things that hits harder than you expect. I knew it was common, but seeing clumps of hair fall out and noticing thinning in the mirror still felt shocking.

It took me a few months to process it. Around three months postpartum, hair was everywhere — in the shower, on my clothes, tangled in my fingers. By four months, a bald patch had appeared near my hairline, and I panicked that all of my hair would never grow back.
Looking back, I understand why it happens, and I also learned how to support my hair during this fragile stage.
My Postpartum Hair Loss Journey
The hardest part was how visible it felt. My hair had always been part of how I presented myself, and suddenly I felt self-conscious every time I tied it up or looked at my hairline.
Around five months postpartum, I began to see tiny baby hairs appearing around my hairline, eventually forming a full band of regrowth. It didn’t happen overnight, but seeing the first signs of new growth was a huge relief.
Why Postpartum Shedding Happens
During pregnancy, higher hormone levels keep hair in its growth phase longer, which is why it often feels thicker and fuller. After birth, those hormone levels drop, and all the hair that was held onto starts shedding at once.
This concentrated shedding is what makes it feel so dramatic. For most women, hair regrows naturally over time.
If shedding feels severe, lasts longer than expected, or is worrying, it’s worth checking in with a GP for reassurance.

Products That Gently Supported My Hair
While waiting for regrowth, a few products helped my hair feel healthier, shinier, and more manageable. None were miracle fixes, but they made me feel like I was doing something kind for my hair.

Hairstory New Wash Deep Clean
A gentle, non-stripping shampoo that thoroughly cleanses without leaving hair feeling dry. It made wash days less stressful, and my scalp felt soothed and refreshed each time I used it.
Shavata Singh Brow & Lash Strengthener
Originally for brows and lashes, I found it helped thinned hairs around my hairline feel stronger and healthier. It’s easy to apply, lightweight, and gave me a boost of confidence when seeing new growth.

UKLASH Hair Growth Serum
This serum felt nourishing and lightweight, great for the delicate new hairs around my hairline. It helped improve texture and gave my hair a healthier appearance during the regrowth phase.
Hair Syrup
A multi-use product that added softness and shine. I used it sparingly on fragile strands, and it helped hair feel more manageable without weighing it down.

Tricotain Hair Retaining Shampoo and Conditioner
A gentle duo that helped my hair feel thicker and stronger. The conditioner added moisture without making my hair limp, and the shampoo kept my scalp clean without stripping natural oils.
Scandinavian Biolabs Bio-Pilixin Hairline Booster
This lightweight booster was easy to apply directly to areas where I was noticing new growth. It felt nourishing and helped make baby hairs more resilient over time.

Luxuriant Ltd Natural Serums and Shampoos
All-natural formulas that were calming for my scalp and hair. They left hair feeling soft and shiny, giving me a sense of self-care while being gentle on delicate strands.
Nanogen Hair Growth Factor Serum
This serum felt like a good middle ground between scalp care and styling support. It is designed to help support thinning hair, but what I noticed most was how much healthier and fuller my hair looked after using it consistently.

ROOT FORCE Scalp Strengthening Serum
Created by Curated Beauty, this scalp serum felt especially soothing when my scalp was feeling sensitive and my hair seemed more fragile than usual. It is designed to support scalp health, and I found it helped my hair feel stronger at the roots while keeping my scalp comfortable and hydrated.
Waiting Before Colouring
I waited until around eight months postpartum before colouring my hair again. Though frustrating, it allowed my hair to recover, making the highlights look better and helping me feel more confident in the salon chair.

Where My Hair Is Now
I still have baby hairs growing around my hairline, and it may take another six months for full regrowth. Postpartum shedding is temporary, and small acts of care during this period — like using gentle products or waiting to colour — can make a real difference.
