Industries that are booming in London right now

London, global city of all global cities. It’s so much more than just a place to get snapped with the Queen’s guard or to take a ride on the London Eye. In fact, the city is bustling with a multitude of industries. Known for its commerce and as being the centre of almost every known bank in the world, London’s financial prowess is nothing to be scoffed at. However, London’s status as a global financial capital is but one, be it a very big one, of various industries and startups and small enterprises, some of which are seriously booming as we speak.

Safety equipment & supplies

In the current global climate, some might think this one to be a no brainer but the truth of the matter is that for the last decade already there has been a major boom in workplace health and safety regulations.  Even before the unfortunate events of the last year and a half, businesses were already ahead of the curve by way of sanitisation equipment in the workplace. Of course there’s a whole industry that goes along with these kinds of ventures as products need to adhere to set standards to avoid fines or even lawsuits for that matter. Revenue for this industry from 2021 through to 2022 is expected to a see a 78% growth.

Production of precious metals

It might not immediately occur to the average Joe, but a boatload of the precious metals used in industry today come from recycle plants – not mining. Industry operators recycle silver, platinum, gold and a host of other materials. The automotive sector plays a massive role in the sale of platinum – most cars these days are fitted with turbos, which in turn are reliant on catalytic converters made from platinum. Gold and silver are naturally used for jewellery although they also enjoy widespread use industrially. And then of course there investors who see these two commodities as safe and reliable investments. A market analysis by CityIndex, an online broker involved in commodity trading, foresees revenue growth for 2021 – 2022 at 37.7%.

Online food ordering & deliveries

Possibly another one that could fall under the no brainer umbrella, although that would not entirely be the case.  In the UK these services are split into two categories:  aggregators and new delivery platforms – the latter which has seen a proliferation in recent times.  Quite simply put, an aggregator provides the user access to various eateries by way of a single portal and then receives a commission from the restaurant. New delivery platforms would best be defined by Uber Eats London whose business model operates on commission from the restaurant and delivery and service fees covered by the consumer.  Revenue for this industry from 2021 through to 2022 is expected to a see a 42.5% growth.

Online booze retailers

The online booze retail industry is made up of several specialist retailers who don’t own any physical stores. In fact, some of these specialists are involved in dropshipping, which means that they advertise the wine and receive a cut of the sale while the supplier takes care of stock and  delivery.  Over the last 5 years there’s also been a growing trend in consumer behaviour to purchase their wine online instead, driven not just by sheer convenience, but also by the availability of premium wines and a growth in win clubs.  A growing awareness of consumption has however stifled the industry but not enough to stop expected growth of 42% for the period of 2021 to 2022.
