I used Ohana CBD skincare for one month and this is what happened

I tried out Ohana CBD skincare for one month to see what happened. Here’s the lowdown on the products, the routine and what I was hoping for, and the all important results. Spoiler alert: it was not at all what I was expecting.

Me & CBD

I’m a reluctant convert to the benefits of CBD. I was late to the party trying the tincture, wasn’t bowled over by the smell of it, and then had to abandon it anyway because it reacted in with my anti depressant medication. What a great start.

But CBD skincare I thought could be something I could really get on board with, using natural products which would hopefully soothe my stressed skin.

The Challenge

I was hoping primarily for something that wouldn’t react. I don’t have overly sensitive skin, but these things do happen from time to time, and I suffered from really sad and sore skin all last year which can happen to anyone as a result of allergies, stress, hormonal changes or reactions to cosmetics or diet.

I was also after something that would nourish my skin, stop spotty breakouts, and hopefully help flaky dry skin appearing here and there. I’ve had a persistent flaky patch where a spot used to be just under my right nostril which I wouldn’t mind getting rid of too.

CBD skincare products

I was gobsmacked when the Ohana CBD skincare arrived in the post. I was expecting brown bottles with cannabis leaves on and labels stuck on in comic sans. I’m sorry, we all have our judgy moments.

Instead I was met with luxury products, white and sugar pink packaging and frosted glass, not at all how imagined CBD skincare to look. Think Harvey Nicks, not Facebook selling page.

The products I was about to give a test drive were the Daily Defence Serum and Night Repair Face Oil, both in bottles with droppers, and a pot of the Ohana Wonder Balm that you just dip your finger in rub into your skin.

My CBD skincare routine

Morning

  • Washing with soap in the shower (sorry skincare fans, old habits die hard)
  • Toning with Simple toner (weeks 2-3 I ran out of cotton wool so had to skip this stage)
  • CeraVe moisturiser
  • Wait for 10 mins (sometimes 2 minutes let’s be honest, sometimes 30)
  • Ohana Daily Defence Serum

Evening

  • Simple face wipes
  • Nip + Fab glycolic fix night pads
  • Ohana Night Repair Face Oil

Additional

  • Ohana Wonder Balm on dry skin next to nose (worth a try) and backs of hands

The Results

Week one:

  • No reactions, the spots that I had have gradually disappeared, and my skin feels comfortable.
  • I adjusted the amount of Daily Defence Serum I used on days where I wore make up but I only use light coverage anyway so it didn’t interfere with that.
  • I feel like this might be coincidental good luck, so we will see what next week brings.

Week two:

  • I realise I haven’t got any new spots, my skin looks and feels calm, and the Night Repair Face Oil is lovely and relaxing just before bed. One of its ingredients is Rosehip and it gives it such a gorgeous but not overpowering scent that you feel like you’re in a spa.
  • I was worried it was going to smell of Cannabis. I don’t want to come across as a boring old Nan, I know the benefits of CBD, but I also don’t want to smell like I’ve been rubbing day old bong water into my face either.
  • No danger of that here though, if the ingredient wasn’t on the label you’d never know; you’d think this was something from Kiehl’s or some other high end skin care range who were yet to introduce CBD oil into their products.

Week three:

  • I’m really into the swing of things with the routine now, although the Wonder Balm doesn’t seem to have had any effect on a tiny red dry patch below my right nostril. It was worth a try though, but maybe it’s just not ideal for faces.
  • It seems to be doing an alright job on my hands though, despite using gallons of hand sanitiser every day these days. I put it on last thing at night so it doesn’t get anything greasy.
  • I’ve also been using it on my shoulder which had gone strangely dry after weekly physio sessions and having loads of ice applied, and it seems to be helping.

Week four:

  • It’s been a whole month without any new spots, no soreness or tightness after washing my face, and no flaky dry skin despite starting to crank up the central heating now and then.
  • As it was gifted, I’ve been using plentiful amounts (especially the night oil which I rub between my hands first and make sure I use on my décolletage and neck too) and still have three quarters of the bottle left.

CBD skincare: final thoughts

  • The results are good, the products are delightful and the packaging very attractive.
  • If I had to choose one to buy again I would definitely invest in some more of the Night Repair Face Oil – I’ve fallen in love with it
  • I would recommend Ohana as a payday treat, a gift for someone who takes care of their skin and loves their high end skincare brands, and for anyone who has neglected skin that needs a bit of brightening up.
