3 easy hairstyles for long hair

With the world slowly opening back up again, we’re ready to ditch the mum-buns of lockdown and inject some glamour into our style. Remington Session Stylist, Kieran Tudor, has created a foolproof guide to fabulous hair, with three classic yet easy hairstyles for long hair to try this week:

LIVED-IN WAVES

Add some ‘I woke up like this’ glamour to your styling routine with these relaxed waves, ideal for hair that’s just been blow dried. The versatility of the style also provides an opportunity to change up your look, suggests Kieran: “What better time to switch up your look or re-invent your style than during this down time! If you’ve been a long-term wearer of a centre parting, add some Old Hollywood glamour to your waves by creating a deep side parting.”

To achieve this undone relaxed style, you’ll need a handful of hair clips to section your hair, and your curling wand and an optional texturising spray. Kieran recommends the PROluxe Curling Wand from Remington: “The PROluxe wand uses clever OPTIheat technology which means not only does your hair look glossy but the curl stays in place for longer!”*

  1. Ensuring your hair is completely dry and beginning with the back sections, clip the rest of your hair up and out of the way.
  2. Bring the left section forward over the left shoulder and wind a 2-3 inch section of hair around the wand, leaving 2 inches straight at the end for a modern vibe. Repeat this with the right section over the right shoulder.
  3. Continue taking sections of hair working up the head as you go, alternating the direction you wind the hair for natural looking waves
  4. Once you reach the hair that frames your face, sure you wind these sections away from your face
  5. After all the hair has been waved, use your fingers to separate the curls and shake the hair through, finishing with a dry texture spray for volume and hold.

EVERYDAY BLOW DRY

We’re all guilty of frantically trying to memorise every flick of the wrist and roll of the brush during a professional blow dry, in an effort to recreate that bouncy volume at home (to varying degrees of success!). Kieran’s top tip to avoid the signature arm-ache when attempting to blow dry with a hairdryer is to abandon the traditional tool in favour of a hot brush, like the Curl & Straight Confidence Air Styler from Remington.

Kieran says: “The versatility of the Air Styler comes from its numerous styling attachments, which allow you to blow dry, detangle, straighten and curl the hair all with one easy-to-use tool.  A great extra feature is the Air Styler’s ionic conditioning which lets you kiss goodbye to any unwanted frizz, often found when styling with heat”.

  1. Beginning with wet hair, use the concentrator attachment to blast your hair until it’s roughly 70% dry
  2. Switching to the paddle brush attachment, take a section of hair from the back of the head and place the teeth of the brush at the root. Slowly glide the brush through the hair through to the tips, using the teeth to lift the roots to add volume where necessary
  3. Using the tong attachment, add shape and movement at the front of the head by placing a section of hair into the clip and using the button to rotate the hair around the barrel, ensuring you rotate the section away from your face. Release the button once the section of hair is fully wrapped around the barrel, applying the heat setting for 6-seconds, then following with 6 seconds of the cool shot to set the curl.
  4. Open the tong clip and slide the barrel out of the hair, before using your fingers to loosen the curl, finishing with hairspray as desired.

MESSY PONYTAIL

Perfect hair that’s been a few days without washing, this quick and easy style can help elevate your look with ease! All you’ll need is a comb, hair grips, curling wand and hairspray to fix in place. Kieran recommends the PROluxe Curling Wand: “The PROluxe wand has a clever Pro+ setting which gently styles at a lower temperature without compromising on results, meaning you style your hair without worrying about potential heat damage”.

  1. To keep your ponytail from looking too severe, section off some face-framing sections from a centre parting
  2. To create volume, back comb the roots on the crown of your head and gather the hair into a high ponytail, using your cheekbones as a guide for the most flattering placement
  3. Use your fingers to tease the hair around your hairline for a more messy, relaxed look
  4. Wrap the loose, front sections of the hair around your PROluxe Curling Wand and wave the hair softly away from the face.
  5. For an added finish of volume, backcomb the roots of the ponytail and finish with some volume texture spray or hairspray as desired.
